About Black Magick Women
Black Magick Women began in 2012 under its first incarnation, The Intrepid Stargazers, as a duet made up of soul-sisters Ailuros and Sway. In 2016, Nisah joined up with them and they became a mischievous little gang! With 10+ years of dance between the three of them, their dancing compliments one another just like they finish each others' sentences, all the while bringing their own unique personalities to their choreographies and performances.

Ailuros began her trek into the beautiful and fascinating world of bellydance at The Bellydance Academy in Kenmore, NY, during the summer of 2011. Even though she had no prior dance training, she took to bellydance like a bird to the sky, and 6 months in she performed her first solo at The Bellydance Academy's annual Winter Hafla. Since starting, she has taken classes from not only The Bellydance Academy, but also locally from Habibi of the Nile, Maia Alexandra and Kadri, and she has taken workshops with world-renown dancers such as Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, Amy Sigil of Unmata, Irina Akulenko and Tempest, just to name a few.
While Ailuros' favorite genre is tribal fusion, she is always interested in learning different styles to add to her repertoire and bellydance library. She very much enjoys choreographing to dramatic music, and performs solos under her own guise of Ailuros Bellydance. She has worked with and is skilled in various dance props such as sword, veil, fan veil, poi and Isis Wings. In 2014, she began working with fire, and she plans to incorporate fire dancing into her performances when possible, after she believes she is skilled enough. When she's not choreographing or dancing, she is working on building up her own small business, Ailuros Design, which caters to the belly dance, yoga and Pagan communities, and studying with the Temple of Witchcraft. In October 2015, she went back to school at the New York Institute of Massage, going part-time to attain her degree and license as a Certified Massage Therapist. Sway happened upon the world of bellydance quite by accident (and with special thanks to her cousin) when she was a mere 15-years-old. She was introduced to this wonderful form of dance via an intro class that was being taught by the awe-inspiring Kadri, from whom she derives much inspiration to this day and forever after. Having had no previous training, she had never imagined she’d ever be able to dance, given that everyone else she knew who did had been doing it since the womb. However, once she met Kadri and all the other regulars, coming to class was like coming home. She performed in public for the first time at the Ghost Light theater in North Tonawanda under her first stage name, Inari.
Since then she has performed in many a group dance and taken at least a dozen workshops from famous dancers such as Tempest and Sashi, finding fun in the slow and scary as well as the shiny sashays. She did not, however, perform her first solo until the first Greater Buffalo Pagan Pride Day in 2012, after she teamed up with her sister Ailuros. She had never really studied under another teacher regularly until she met Kadri’s amazing dance partner, Maia Alexandra, the second half of Darkly Sparkly. Sway often finds herself and Ailuros on the same bat channel at the same bat time, just as the ladies of Darkly Sparkly, and she hopes to one day choreograph a group dance with them as well as a duet with her mentor, Kadri. Sway also has her own line of jewelry and hair accessories which can be viewed and purchased any time via her Etsy store or Designs By Sway on Facebook. She also does re-furbished jewelry, custom pieces, and designs tons of other fun things such as masks, wreaths, T-shirts and mojo bags. Chances are if you’ve ever walked by something crafty and thought “Oh, this is really cool! If only it were a different color. Or if only it had this and not that,” Sway can make it happen, cap’n. |
